Alexandra went to my high school for a year as an exchange student and we became good friends and have kept in touch since (for over 15 years!). I was SO excited when she wanted me to shoot her wedding in Germany! We decided to make a trip of it since we have lots of German friends and 10 days before the wedding we arrived and literally went all around Germany (starting in Berlin, then Potsdam, Leipzig, Munich, Salzburg, Heidelberg, Ramstein, Frankfurt, Cologne, Dortmund, Hattingen, Hamburg, and finally to the wedding in Lubeck). Germany is GORGEOUS! Not what I expected-there are SO many fields and trees everywhere. Just know that July and August are super hot in Germany and really no where (except the chocolate shops!) has air conditioning 😀 Alexandra chose a pink palette and everything has such a simple elegance about it.
It rained until about two hours before the ceremony was to start. By a miracle is cleared up the the blue skies came out for the rest of the day! I loved seeing Alexandra’s dad’s reaction when he saw her for the first time.
Alexandra and her sisters worked so hard on so many of the details of her wedding and they did such a beautiful job!
One of my favorite shots is when the groom sees his bride walking down the aisle. Janosch did not disappoint! One difference with German weddings is that the bride and groom sit for most of the ceremony.
Although I didn’t understand the ceremony, it really is the same 😀 Love, family and more love!
Instead of cake, they had cupcakes and cake pops, which was fine by me! I love me some cake pops!!!
We headed out to the woods to get some pictures and found some spider, frog and other insect friends 😀 It was so hot, at that point we were ok if it would have rained a little. Their venue was so gorgeous and I could have shot there all day long!
Their guests played croquet (which we found out they didn’t know the rules for, so Josh and I were more than happy to show them–we love croquet!) and badminton (which I convinced the guys is more fun to play if they take a drink the same time they hit the birdie….which it was more fun for me….to watch them try, haha!)
Alexandra and her sister had practiced throwing the bouquet before the wedding day, so when it came time to throw it, it really was the most perfect throw I’d ever seen. Right to her sister. She was SOOOO excited and it was so fun to see! Now the food….let’s just look at some German food for awhile. Man I love the food and miss it so much!
There was A LOT of food and we ate for hours (which I didn’t mind at all :D). Yes, let’s all look at more food. Don’t mind if I do! I stole Alexandra and Janosch away to get a few sunset shots before the dancing began.
So then there was dessert…oh yes, yummy European desserts! And finally there was dancing, lots and lots of dancing! I love when there is dancing at a wedding! Alexandra works for Hummel, and provided her guests with flip flops for dancing and had a custom pair of pink sneakers for her to dance the night away.We had so much fun and I wish more weddings were like this in Utah. They spent almost a whole day with their closest family and friends and it really was such a wonderful celebration! Hoping I make it back to Germany some day soon!
