Amanda and Stan have the cutest style.\u00a0 Amanda wanted a non-traditional, laid back wedding.\u00a0 It was at the beautiful Cactus and Tropicals in Salt Lake City.\u00a0 I loved having all the fresh flowers around.\u00a0 Between smelling the Cafe Rio catering and the beautiful flowers-everyone was pretty much in heaven.\u00a0 I think my new favorite color combination at weddings is the yellow and gray.\u00a0 It just always looks so good together!\u00a0 {I might change my mind next week, but for now, I love it so much!}\u00a0 They had soda in glass bottles, which makes it taste better I think-plus a place to recycle the bottles, which I also loved!\u00a0 Their family and friends were tons of fun and we had a great time watching all the cute little kids dance.\u00a0 Congrats to you both and I hope you had a wonderful time in Mexico!\u00a0 LUCKY!!!\u00a0 Read below about the vendors and the inspiration behind this wedding.\"\"<\/p>\n

From Amanda, the bride:<\/p>\n

My dress was a strapless tea-length gown from David’s Bridal, but I found an awesome tailor here in SLC (Di’Antii) who cut off the bottom to make it knee-length and used that lace to put the boat neck on the top.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/em><\/p>\n

Stan’s suit is from JCPenney’s but again- we had it tailored to fit his skinny little body and that made all the difference.<\/em><\/p>\n

I bought the flowers for the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres by the bunch from the Flower Patch<\/a>, and my mom’s ex-florist friend, along with me and a couple of my friends, arranged them.<\/p>\n

My shoes are Cole Haan (marked down to $20 from $295) which I found at an outlet in Las Vegas when we went there for my bachelorette party. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

My pearl necklace and earrings were borrowed from a friend.<\/p>\n

My dear dear friend Carrie made 200 cupcakes from scratch- and they also happen to be vegan (recipes inspired by the vegan baking genius of Isa Moskowitz). They were coconut lime macadamia and chocolate cinnamon.<\/p>\n

The groomsmen wore white shirts and dark slacks and shoes, and we bought them matching ties from solidcolorneckties.com (I think they were something like $10 each) and the yellow socks from welovecolors.com.<\/p>\n

The bridesmaids wore Gap (outlet!) cardigans and my sister made skirts using fabric from fabric.com. They are both conservative moms and I wanted them to A) be comfortable and B) truly be able to wear their outfits again.<\/p>\n

My mom made the little flower girl dresses- five of them!- with fabric from a quilting store here in town.<\/p>\n

For the little boys, she got yellow polos and white shorts. She also got them little white beachy shoes, but at the last minute Collin got a blister and refused to wear them, so they walked barefoot- which I thought was just as cute.<\/p>\n

The guest book is a leather journal from rustico.com (which is Orem- based). We plan to record other little quips from trips we take, etc. since, as most guest books go, only about the first five pages got filled up.<\/p>\n

I made the lollipops and stuck them in some foam in a basket and put some dried peas on top of the foam.<\/p>\n

Stan’s dad made our adorable cake topper! I just had him google “wooden cake toppers” and he took it from there.<\/p>\n

Ring “pillows” were rocks we found in Moab (Stan’s a geologist so it seemed fitting).<\/p>\n

My talented mom made the headpiece. She made the big flower with some felt and some white ribbon, then used Russian netting and tweaked it until it looked right.<\/p>\n

The food was of course from Cafe Rio, which I would recommend 1000x! Their food is usually pretty crowd-pleasing. We really wanted people to leave with full bellies, and their cost was the same (or less) for a full meal as normal caterers charge for hors’de’ouvres (however you spell that!).<\/p>\n

The only decorating we did at Cactus &Tropicals (they let you use their potted plants for centerpieces and basically anywhere you’d like to put them- plus it’s just gorgeous in there) was our photo clothesline, which we liked instead of doing a slideshow. We liked that we didn’t have to fuss with any electronic equipment, and also that it got people up and walking around to look at it. We scanned in old pics and printed them at Costco.<\/p>\n

Our top three priorities for our wedding were 1) a cool location (and we really do love plants, gardening, and nature- as you probably heard the Bishop say during our ceremony \ud83d\ude42 ) 2) that people would get plenty to eat and drink and actually WANT to hang around and 3) that we would have an awesome photographer to capture it all! (And not necessarily in that order!)<\/p>\n

We feel very blessed that we had so many people contribute to our wedding. We’re pretty frugal people, and fortunately where we lacked the $$ we made up for with people’s generosity and hard work. We had so much fun that night, and we keep hearing how awesome our wedding was. We couldn’t have done it without so much help.<\/p>\n

About us: Stan and I met through friends a few years ago. He was living in a house with a bunch of guys, and my friends and I would go over there a lot to hang out. He was always pretty shy and quiet but I loved his smile and we started dorkily flirting through leaving each other notes on each others’ bikes. Then we pretty much became inseparable. We love the outdoors and can often be found hiking, biking, or running. We also LOVE good food and our “restaurant” budget might be the hardest one to keep in check! The other thing we love (actually kind of love\/hate \ud83d\ude42 ) is working on my, now our, house together. We love all things remodeling and renovating, and working in the yard.<\/em><\/p>\n
